Al Kurose, MD is President and CEO of Coastal Medical, a primary care driven Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Coastal Medical provides care to 120,000 patients in more than 20 medical offices across Rhode Island.
Meryl Moss, MPA, EMHL, Coastal Medical, COO
Meryl Moss, MPA, EMHL, serves as Chief Operating Officer of Coastal Medical. In her role, Ms. Moss is orchestrating a complete practice transformation at Coastal Medical. With 25-years of healthcare experience, Moss provides the insight and leadership necessary to continually explore new ways to deliver high quality, cost effective, patient centered care to Coastal’s population of patients. Over a 5-year period, Coastal has transitioned from being a traditional group practice, to an NCQA Level 3 recognized PCMH practice and, most recently, one of a handful of successful Primary Care Driven ACO’s in the country.
Edward McGookin, MD, FAAP, Chief Medical Officer
Edward McGookin, MD, FAAP, is the Chief Medical Officer at Coastal Medical and practices general pediatrics at Coastal Bald Hill Pediatrics in Warwick, RI.
As CMO, McGookin is responsible for the oversight of all clinical activities at Coastal Medical. He will continue to improve the PCMH practice transformation process, implement and maintain the group’s standards of care; and collaborate with leaders, both internally and externally, to understand, manage and reduce the total cost of care for the Coastal population of 120,000 patients.
Steven Kempner, MD, Medical Director, Internal Medicine
Dr. Steven M. Kempner was born in Rockaway, Queens, New York, and attended public schools in New York State for his entire education. He graduated from Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, New York, and immediately attended the State University of New York at Binghamton (now the Binghamton University), graduating in 1974 with honors and receiving the Martin S. Paul award for excellence in chemistry.
David L. Fried, MD, FACP, Board Chair
Dr. Fried is a board certified practicing internist and Chair of the Board of Directors of Coastal Medical, Inc., an organization which he cofounded in 1995. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Medicine at Brown University and Medical Director at St. Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. He serves as Medical Director of Omega Medical Research, Inc., where he has acted as the Chief Principal Investigator on over 300 clinical trials. Dr. Fried obtained his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at Rhode Island Hospital in the Brown University Affiliated Program in Internal Medicine.
