Dr. Sarah Thompson Awarded Prestigious “40 Under Forty” Award
PROVIDENCE, RI (June 30, 2015) – Coastal Medical’s Director of Clinical Services, Sarah Thompson, PharmD, CDOE, has been awarded the prestigious Providence Business News, 40 Under Forty award. An event honoring the award winners will take place July 23, at Aldrich Mansion in Warwick, Rhode Island.
Now in its eleventh year, the 40 Under Forty selects winners from a large pool of applicants based on career success and community involvement. This year’s pool, the largest to date, contained over 150 nominations in all. Nominees are young professionals from diverse professions who demonstrate leadership skills and are committed to making a difference on a local, national or international scale; this is certainly the case for Dr. Thompson.
In her role as Director of Clinical Services at Coastal Medical, Dr. Thompson has been expanding the pharmacy and nurse care manager departments that works to support care in all 20 Coastal Medical locations. The clinical teams work directly with patients to improve their health through proper use and understanding of their medications and by empowering patients through the development of self-management plans. Dr. Thompson is a strong proponent of team base healthcare and using a population health based approach to care for patients. With her leadership, the pharmacy and nurse care manager teams are currently working on a new Diabetes Management Program, Pain Management Pathway, Cardiac Risk Reduction Clinic, Annual Wellness Clinic for Medicare patients, transitions of care program, and high risk patient management program.

It is also an opportunity to draw attention to the innovative and unique approaches to population health management work we are doing at Coastal Medical. We spend our days thinking about how to improve patient care by providing and monitoring preventive services, and developing chronic care management programs to help our sickest patients maintain their best health.”
Dr. Thompson was also recently awarded the Rhode Island Pharmacists Association Excellence in Innovation Award. She serves on the ASHP Section Advisory Committee for practice sustainability, is the current RIPA President-Elect serves on the Advisory Board for the University Of Rhode Island College Of Pharmacy, and acts as Residency Director for the Coastal Medical/URI PGY-1 Residency Program. Sarah graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2006 with her PharmD and completed a 2 year drug development fellowship with the University of Buffalo and Novartis.
