Rhode Island Pre-Kindergarten Lottery Open
From email sent by Rhode Island Academy of Pediatrics
Universal Pre-K: The RI PRE-K lottery is NOW OPEN for online application, No lottery applications will be accepted after July 5. Applications are available on the RI Dept of Education Website.
These are extremely high quality 6 hour/day preK programs for children living in 16 RI towns: Central Falls, Coventry, Cranston, East Providence, Johnston, Middletown, Newport, North Kingstown, North Providence, Pawtucket, Providence, Warren, Warwick, West Warwick, Westerly and Woonsocket.
Most have wrap-around child care available too. As with Head Start, families must provide transportation, while the program itself is at no cost to families.
Some towns have multiple sites, such as Providence with 12 sites. Families must apply to as many sites in their town as they wish to increase their “chance” of winning.
There are seats for 1,754 four year olds in the lottery this year. Lower income families are given some advantage in the lottery. RI Head Start has another 1000 seats and low income qualifying families are encouraged to apply to both to increase their chance of securing a seat in one of these high quality programs.
