Tips From RIAAP to Keep Your Family Healthy During Covid
From a Press Release created by
The American Academy of Pediatrics, Rhode Island Chapter (RIAAP) has launched a new “Tips to Keep Your Family Health During COVID” public awareness campaign, designed to empower parents and teens with information and resources to stay healthy mentally and physically through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Tips and resources on mental health, wellness, learning during COVID, parenting during COVID, and being a teen during COVID are available at FamilyHealthDuringCovidRI.org and will be featured on RIAAP’s Facebook page, Facebook.com/AAPRhodeIsland.
“We’re unfortunately in the most difficult stage of the COVID-19 pandemic and will be for several months,” said pediatrician Dr. Gregory Fox, MD. “In addition to the deadly serious direct health impacts caused by the coronavirus, the pandemic has upended Rhode Islanders daily lives from school, to work, to not being able to see friends and loved ones. This disruption is causing other very real health impacts for young children, teens, and parents including increased stress and anxiety, lack of sleep, and missed childhood vaccinations and doctor visits. That’s why we’ve launched this campaign to share tips, quality resources, and best practices to keep Rhode Island children, teens, and families healthy during COVID.”
“We want Rhode Island families to know that pediatricians’ offices are open, safe, and ready to see you and your child for well-child visits, vaccinations, and other health issues,” said pediatrician Dr. Allison Brindle, MD. “Over the last several months, we’ve seen a big uptick in parents worried about disrupted routines and seeing the impacts of stress and anxiety on their children. That’s why our Tips to Keep Your Family Health During COVID campaign is emphasizing a number of mental health and wellness resources for both children and parents. From establishing routines, to getting enough sleep, to dealing with stress, to parental self-care, to the importance of physical activity, our website has great information to help Rhode Island children and families through this scary, difficult, and stressful time.”
The “Tips to Keep Your Family Health During COVID” campaign has been made possible through a partnership with the Care Transformation Collaborative of Rhode Island/ PCMH Kids. RIAAP wants to recognize the high quality resources developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, University Hospitals, University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Challenge Success, and Zero to Three that are featured on FamilyHealthDuringCovidRI.org.
