Rami Almadi, MD

Dr. Rami Almadi graduated from Semmelweis University of Medicine (SOTE) in Budapest, Hungary and completed his residency at Lincoln Medical Center in New York City.  After successfully passing the American Board of Internal Medicine on his first attempt, Dr. Almadi worked as an attending physician at Lincoln Medical Center for 6 years. In 2014, Dr. Almadi was accepted for a pulmonary fellowship at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, RI where he became certified in many diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.  Dr. Almadi is fluent in English and Hungarian.  In his spare time he likes working out, running and travel.

Matthew Franco, MD

Matthew Franco, MD, is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Worcester MA.  His Cardiology Fellowship  and Internal Medicine Residency were was also completed at the University of Massachusetts.

Dr. Franco joined Coastal Medical in August 2015. His hobbies and interests include ice hockey, fencing, computers and technology.

Peter Karczmar, MD

Dr. Peter Karczmar is a board-certified specialist in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine.  He is also board-certified in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine.  He graduated from Columbia University and University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.  His practice provides comprehensive care for patients with breathing and sleep disorders.  His focus encompasses all aspects of pulmonary disorders including, but not limited to asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis/interstitial lung disease, work-related lung disease, chronic cough, and lung cancer.  The sleep medicine portion of his practice includes care of patients with insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, circadian rhythm disorders, and parasomnias (abnormal behaviors during sleep).

Dr. Karczmar is also active on many committees at Coastal Medical and the Miriam Hospital, where he served as the Medical Staff President through 2012.  He is also the recipient of several awards for excellence in teaching at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University where he is a Clinical Assistant Professor.  These include the Internal Medicine Residency Program Teaching Award, the Dean’s Teaching Recognition Award, and the Beckwith Family Award for Outstanding Teaching.

Dr. Karczmar, a native of Warsaw, Poland, has been a Rhode Island resident for more than 25 years.  He and his wife, Dr. Cathy Lund (owner of City Kitty Veterinary Care for Cats), and their three cats live in Providence’s historic Elmwood district where they are both active in many community-based organizations including the Institute for the Study and Practice of Non-Violence, Providence Community Library, AIDS Care Ocean State, the Companion Animal Foundation, and City Arts. 

Dr. Karczmar is one of the founding members of Taming Asthma, a non-profit organization that provides free asthma diagnosis, education and treatment for patients without medical insurance.  For his work creating this organization, he was the recipient of the 2011 CHEST Foundation Humanitarian Award by the American Academy of Chest Physicians and also was recognized as a Blue Cross/Blue Shield of RI as a Community Hero.

In his spare time, Dr. Karczmar loves to read, travel, argue about RI politics (who doesn’t!), and sail his 45 year-old wooden ketch, Snow Goose.

Iracena Lopes, NP

Iracena Lopes graduated from the University of Boston with a Family Nurse Practitioner Post Masters certification.  Before joining Specialty Care Center she worked at The Miriam Hospital as an Acute Care Surgery Nurse Practitioner.  Iracena enjoys running and loves to travel. She also coaches girls' competitive soccer.

Denyse Lutchmansingh, MD

Dr. Denyse Lutchmansingh graduated from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago and completed her residency at Good Samaritan Hospital of Maryland in Baltimore, MD.  Dr. Lutchmansingh is trained in the evaluation and management of critically ill patients and pulmonary disease.  Her interests include music of all kinds and travel.

Michael A. Pomerantz, MD

Dr. Michael Pomerantz graduated from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1986. He completed his residency at the Department of Internal Medicine at Northwestern University. He has been with Coastal since 2005.

Joseph S. Terlato, MD, FACC

Dr. Terlato attended Manhattan College earning his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering. He attended the Master's program in Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  Dr. Terlato earned his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his Internal Medical residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York.  He completed a fellowship in Cardiology at Rhode Island Hospital and started private practice in 1995.  Dr Terlato is board certified in Cardiology and Internal Medicine and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Brown Medical School.  He specializes in consultative cardiology and stress echocardiography.

Toby Weiser, PA-C, MPAS, AE-C

Toby Weiser graduated from MCP Hahnemann University where she obtained a Bachelors of Science and became a Physician Assistant – Certified. She went on to receive a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska. Toby currently works at Coastal Medical’s Specialty Care Center.
